children are living in poverty

StoryImage1

Poverty is complex and has a devastating impact on every area of life. That's why Compassion’s approach comprehensively addresses all areas of a child’s development: physical, socio-emotional, cognitive and spiritual.

We call this holistic child development. It’s a long-term approach that starts before a child is born and continues through to school age and into young adulthood.

Our local church partners ensure every child can hear the Gospel and receive a good education, nutrition, clean water and healthcare. Children have the opportunity to attend local child development centres on a regular basis so they can learn, play and grow together.

Our proven approach sees children break the cycle of poverty and reach their full potential.

Our role in the global neighbourhood

The global Compassion neighbourhood connects children living in poverty with a loving sponsor who supports their participation in Compassion’s program. Sponsors can also nurture a relationship with their sponsored child by exchanging letters over the course of their development.

Yet every child will, at some point, require additional care beyond what sponsorship alone can provide. As Compassion Singapore, we have the special opportunity to support local churches in Asia as they initiate interventions to meet the unique and urgent needs of their communities.

Across Asia, our local partners are working to:

  • Improve child nutrition so they can enjoy a healthy life free from hunger
  • Support new mums and babies with care they critically need
  • Provide clean water and sanitation facilities to prevent children from getting sick
  • Assist families affected by disasters with immediate relief and safer infrastructure
  • Give children a safe place where they are known, loved and protected
  • Open education opportunities for children and youth to create a better future
